Question

Where do you think teachers should put most of their attention into while decorating their classroom?

  1. I think teachers should put most of their attention into the learning areas. They should make sure they have learning posters or even crafts they have made with the students about what the right thing to do it. This way the teacher can always refer to these things when needed to help a student.

  2. I think teachers should guide their attention to learning stations when decorating their classroom. Having specific areas for certain materials keep the kids organized because each object has to go back where it belongs. I have always like when teachers have motivational learning posters in the classroom, it gives the room a positive feel. One thing I suggest is to not have too much decoration on the top of a student's desk. I think this because it can cause a major distraction.

  4. I think that teachers should put learning tool decorations (ex. A colorful poster on the difference between there, their, and they're) in the front of the classroom, or whatever direction students normally face while at their desks. Then I think teachers should put the class projects or other eye appealing decorations in the back of the classroom so that students do not get distracted by them while in class, but can look at them during free time or a small break!

  5. Growing up I always appreciated coming to classrooms that would change the decorations according to the seasons ( k-5). I've been in classrooms where the decorations changed only once ( after the new year begins) and it was very dull. Decorations such as window art, posters, class projects is something that I believe would make a difference. The student would be proud to see his or her work up.

  6. I work in a preschool classroom, and although the school runs year-round, I had 2 weeks to prepare the classroom. For me, I spent most of the time decorating the circle time area. This is where we have our opening group/morning meeting, our circle time, and our story time. We spend a lot of time in this particular part of the classroom, so I wanted it to be very aesthetically pleasing. We have our large daily schedule in this area with pictures of the activities, and when the students got into the routine, I added pictures of them doing the activities from the schedule. I have our "helping hands" job chart in this area, as well as our Question of the Day, our Morning Message chart, and our attendance chart.

  7. I've had experience completing hours observing/creating my own lesson plans and teaching in high school through a mentorship program we had. I had the opportunity to complete a few bulletin boards outside the classroom in the hallway which I think was a great way to display the work of students, especially because students have pride in their work when it is displayed for everyone to see. Also, decorating with posters around the room with motivational sayings with topics relevant to learning would be a great crafty touch to the classroom.
